After Bulgaria’s accession to the EU on January 1st, 2007, Bulgarians will be considered European   Economic Area (EEA) nationals, and under community law will be entitled to move and reside freely in any EU Member State they might choose. Therefore, Bulgarian nationals will not be required to obtain a visa to enter the UK, except for work permit holders, which intend to work in the country for more than 6 months.

ENTERING THE UK

When you enter the UK, you need to show your passport and national identity card. When you arrive at major ports and airports you should use the separate channel marked 'EEA/EU' where it is available. Immigration officers will check your passport or national identity card to make sure that it is valid and belongs to you.

REFUSAL OF ENTRY

You will be denied access to UK territory on public safety/public security, or public health grounds, or if you were banned from entering or residing in the UK before, and the ban against you has not been lifted. You need to contact the British Embassy in Sofia so that you have the ban removed.
If you do not qualify for entry into the UK, we will explain the reasons. Our staff will identify themselves by name when asked or will refer you to a senior manager on duty. We will tell you in writing why we have refused you entry to the UK and if you have any rights of appeal.
